Sweeping letters will be put onto paper on the evening of 27 June 2019, because that's when the Long Night of Writing will be held in line with the theme of "In the jungle of letters". The German Initiative Schreiben association is organising the calligraphic jungle expedition, which it is carrying out hand in hand with retailers and well-known companies in numerous cities in the German-speaking area.
Writing enthusiasts and interested parties can take part in the so-called expedition in the participating shops and corporate offices without having to travel afar. In workshops and taster courses, they will make use of pens, ink and paint to create their own jungle texts. Or they can admire the letter-rich jungle artworks in the calligraphers' galleries. There are activities on offer from Buxtehude in Germany to Burgdorf in Switzerland and from Cologne to Neumarkt.
The Brazilian calligrapher Ana Luiza Cavalcanti will help participants design a letter jungle scenario in the brushlettering taster workshops organised by the Cologne-based pen, ink and paper retailer MiaSkribo. In Karlsruhe, Papier Fischer, in cooperation with Kritzelliebe, is spreading jungle fever in its workshops relating to handlettering, calligraphy, graffiti handlettering and sketch notes. Besides a wealth of many other writing and design activities, such as calligraphy and lettering on plant and paper sheets as offered by Büro Wenger in Ingolstadt, many other eloquent jungle scenarios will also arise during The Long Night of Writing.
Bavarian Minister of Education Professor Dr Michael Piazolo, the President of the Bavarian Teachers Association Simone Fleischmann and the Deputy Chairman of the Initiative Dr Michael Kramer will hold a discussion on the topic of "in the jungle of algorithms". In the Salon Luitpold in Munich, they will discuss the opportunity that the mutual interaction of the digitisation of all spheres of life and writing skills offers with regard to designing and shaping the world of the future.
